The Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation is a charitable trust dedicated to funding research, educating the public and raising awareness about the issues surrounding anaphylaxis and resources for management of the condition.
The Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation consists of our Board of Directors, a Chief Executive Officer and a Program Director.
The Foundation believes that by ensuring the health and welfare of our children we ensure the health of our community and create a stronger Australia for generations to come.
Recent Achievements
The Foundation was established in March 2006 with an initial commitment of $1million from founder John Ilhan.
In our short lifetime, the Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation has:
- In January 2010, the Ilhan Foundation invested an additional $140,000 in Australian allergy and immunology research. Learn more
- In January 2010, Ilhan Foundation funded research program "HealthNuts" confirmed that Australia has the highest prevalence of infant egg and nut allergy of all westernized countries.
- In December 2009, the Ilhan Foundation matured its first three year research portfolio with an investment value of around $900,000. Learn more
- In November 2009, the Ilhan Foundation held its inaugural Charity Challenge at Marysville Golf and Bowls Club, raising around $45,000 towards medical research, as well as supporting the devastated bushfire community of Marysville.
- In August 2009, the Ilhan Foundation welcomed Dr Graham Mitchell AO, Dr Connie Katelaris and Dr Mukesh Haikerwal as our independent research review panel for 2010.
- In memory of John Ilhan, the Ilhan Foundation welcomed a partnership with the Rotary Club of Brighton in 2008, which has resulted in an annual fundraising luncheon.
- In November 2007, hosted the Rainbow Ball, Victoria’s most successful charity event ever held at Crown, raising $2.4 million towards improving the lives of people with food allergies and anaphylaxis
- In November 2007 hosted a highly acclaimed International Scientific Conference which was generously supported by the Victorian Departments of Human Services and Education and Early Childhood Development
- In November 2007 hosted a free Public Seminar to enable members of the public to seek advice and information from food allergy experts and agencies
- In November 2007 hosted an industry forum “Anaphylaxis Clinic to Community: A Vision for 2015” designed to collaboratively formulate future policy and direction for anaphylaxis and food allergies
- In December 2007, formed a strategic partnership with the National Australia Bank valued at $1,000,000 over ten years
- In September 2007 formed a strategic alliance with AnaphylaxiSTOP to channel even more funding into research
- Created considerable publicity to raise awareness of this important issue
- In December 2006, committed $750,000 to medical research into better understanding food allergy, improved diagnostic tools and possible preventions and treatments
- Worked co-operatively with State Government to commit an extra $430,000 per annum to expand the allergy clinic at the Royal Childrens’ Hosptial in Melbourne. This will result in dramatically reducing the waiting list for patients to consult with an allergy specialist from 18 months to around 8 weeks. More
- Helped launch a program by the Victorian State Government to commit an addition $1.5 million to train teachers and childcare workers in the area of food allergy management and the application of an Epipen. More
- Produced a cookbook "Fast Ideas Safe recipes for Kids, especially created and coded for kids with allergies
- In conjunction with Firbank Grammar School produced a school curriculum Healthy Living Program to raise awareness amongst teachers, staff and students (link Healthy Living Program on Public Education page of site).
