Latest Research Findings
Dr Katie Allen’s “Health Nuts” research funded by the Ilhan Foundation, has demonstrated that Australian infants have the highest prevalence of challenge-proven allergies and senstisation to egg (7%) and peanuts (2%) of all Westernised countries. Dr Allen’s research confirms a substantial increase in prevalence since studies in 1990’s, and continues to seek newly identified environmental factors that may impact on the increased risk of allergy. John Ilhan Tribute Lunch

The Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation teamed up with The Rotary Club of Brighton for a second year to co-host the John Ilhan Tribute Lunch at Carousel on 17th July 2009. Guests enjoyed an insightful and profound speech from John's close friend Eddie McGuire, along with a discussion panel of AFL Presidents including David Smorgon, James Brayshaw and Ray Horsburgh. Thanks to sponsors Crazy John's and JP Dixon Real Estate and donors including Brighton Travelworld, Austereo, Fifteen Foundation, Channel Nine, Lamborghini and Collingwood Football Club, the occasion and raised much needed funds for the work of John's two favorite charities. |

The 2008 Rainbow Ball held at the Palladium at Crown on November 15 was a great success. Sponsors, guests and supporters all gave very generously to the Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation to ensure its support of world leading research and education programs to help counter the community Melbourne impact of food allergies is able to continue to prosper. Guests were entertained by Marcia Hines and cover bad De Ja Vu and everyone enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by master chef Philippe Mouschel and Crown. The staging of an event like the Rainbow Ball would not be possible without the support of a great many sponsors and individual supporters. 2008 Scientific Conference
The Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation hosted its third International Scientific Conference “Towards Prevention, treatment and Cure of Anaphylaxis” from Monday 10 November 2008 through to Wednesday 12 November 2008.

The outcomes of the Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation’s 2008 International Scientific Conference were significant.
- For a period of four days, international research boundaries were eliminated as the research community united to discuss the current allergy research efforts and opportunities.
- Australia and Victoria in particular was provided with a forum to showcase its research efforts in the field off allergy and immunology, and to demonstrate their value on an international scale.
- Victorian Government’s management solutions for anaphylaxis were highlighted and promoted.
- The Ilhan Food Allergy Foundation’s brand was cemented as an important contributor to anaphylaxis research and public health solutions.
- A dialogue has begun with international research and support organizations.
- A collaborative industry approach was fostered and encouraged.

Victorian Anaphylaxis Management Bill
The Victorian Government has taken a leading role in the field of anaphylaxis and food allergies by preparing legislation to enforce the management of anaphylaxis and food allergies in school and preschool environments. Australian Society for Clinical Immunology and Allergy
A range of information can be found on ASCIA’s website, including copies of the Anaphylaxis Management Plans, which are to be completed by your GP and provided to your child’s pre-school or school.

Kylie Sanderson is a Kindergarten teacher and mother to an anaphylactic child and has prepared a brochure to assist parents to prepare their preschool.

Food Allergen Information Kit for Food Businesses
A free information kit has been designed by Maribyrnong Council to assist food businesses in developing their own allergen food matrix. A copy is available for download from the Maribyrnong City Council site (click on title above), or alternatively, you can contact Environmental Health and a copy will be posted to you.
